Thirteen Movies from AFI's Greatest Film List I've seen
I am following up on last week's Thursday Thirteen. Both are taken from the same list, but last week was movies I haven't seen.
This week's thirteen are movies I have seen of that list of 100. There were a few others, but the game Thursday is to list thirteen.
Without further chatter:
1. The African Queen (1951) - my mom's favorite movie of all time. Oddly, I hadn't seen it until a few months ago. I love Kathrine Hepburn.
2. E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) - the first movie I remember seeing. It was still in the theater in '84 or '85 when I saw it. Unlike today when the DVD come out in a matter of months. I cried and went to sit on Dad's lap when E.T. got sick.
3. Fantasia (1940) - Beautiful, but I still don't listen to classical music independently
4. King Kong (1933) - the original monster movie
5. It's A Wonderful Life (1946) - every Christmas for as long as I can remember.
6. Schindler's List (1993) - I saw it when it came out in the theater. I was in eighth grade. I cried and cried. It's a great film, but I have never seen it again.
7. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975) - Jack. Need I say more?
8. Star Wars (1977) - I don't remember seeing any of these as a kid, but I saw them as a teen. My brother is the Star Wars nut in the family.
9. Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1937) - the one and only. The theater on base in Connecticut played a kid friendly Saturday movie every week. Nearly every week it was Snow White.
10. Singin' In The Rain (1952) - Do you know I love musicals?
11. The Wizard of Oz (1939) - A icon. I love the music.
12. West Side Story (1961) - If I love the last two on the list, they still don't hold a candle to this one.
13. Rear Window (1954) - I love Hitchcock. This movie is so classic for him because there is very little action, yet it's scary enough to make you pee your pants.

I am currently trying to finish the AFI list. It's taking me awhile. I've seen and loved many of the movies you've listed, although "The African Queen" is one I've yet to get to. Everything I've seen Katharine Hepburn in, I've loved, so I'm sure this will be no different.
Happy TT!

I love what a perfect upper crust snob she is in the movie.

Great T13 list. ET is and was one of my favorite all-time movies!!

I haven't seen it in years because it has always given my little brother nightmares to the point that Mom got rid of the VHS tape we had in the late 80s. To this day he can't watch it.

I think on my list, Hitchcock would take up about 4 - 5 slots. And definitely Rebecca would be on the list...still your movie taste is fantastic and I like all of them
My Thursday Thirteen is posted!

Rebecca is one of the one's I'd not heard of.
I've seen more of Hitchcock. The Birds freaks me out, even though I love it. Even have blogged about Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

I love It's a Wonderful Life!

It's a great movie. I love it more every time I see it. The statement it makes about the human condtion is so perfect. This last year I watched it on one of the networks and was disappointed it was shown with commercials.

I've only seen 11/13!
And, you are right, I would NEVER give up the www. That's just ludicrous! That would be like giving up...gasp...coffee or ...doublegasp...music!

I could give up coffee- won't but could - but not diet soda.

Our local community collage did Singin' in the Rain for their spring play. It was so good. I had the music in my head for months.

I credit my lack of social life and extracurrcular activities with the number of movies I saw growing up.

I have seen half of the movies on your list. I have some on DVD. I wish I had time to get caught up on film watching.

If I ever won enough at the lotto to not have to work, I would spend a good year reading, wathcing movies along with writing and blogging. Otherwise catching up is impossible because they keep making movies and publishing books.

You better not have anything bad to say about Star Wars.

I'm a science fiction fan overall, so I love Star Wars. They are the best space/western/fairy tale/romance ever.

Along with the great acting and C.S. Forester's excellent story "The African Queen" has one of the greatest shots I've ever seen as the camera pulls back from them mired in the swamp to show the huge vista of the lake.

It was visually stunning. When you consider the technology, or lack of, it's even more impressive.

I've seen 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 but strangely I don't have any real wish to see the rest. Singin' In The rain is one of my all time faves. Clever of the producer, Arthur Freed, to feature all his won compositions in it!

I love the era of movies where everything had a song and dance number or two. Like the Shirley Temple movies where they would have a song and dance dream sequence if need be.

It scared my brother when he was little. In his teens, he tried to watch it again and it still kept him up all night.

Contrary to my normal comment, of "I like sports, and sports movies," I have actually seen a couple of these. Of course, I don't need to see the rest, I can get the plot synopsis from you and Kate.

You should be scared if you understand the plot of something from what Kate and I say. If you speak our language, you've been around us to much.
XOXOXO
