Lola Carlyle Reveals All by Rachel Gibson
As promised, here I am bringing you the scoop on the second of two Rachel Gibson novels I've just read. After a visit to Boise in I'm In No Mood for Love, I was warmed to join Lola in the Caribbean.
Lola Carlyle Reveals All is the story of a famous ex-underwear model who is mistakenly commandeered along with a yacht by Sam Zamora, agent for the US Government, on an if-I-told-you-I'd-have-kill-you mission that has gone wrong.
She was asleep on the boat with her tiny purse sized dog after a cocktail party. Once she's awake, both parties are equally startled. A chain of events leads to Lola shooting a distress flare at Sam. The motor and communication methods are completely destroyed, leaving the pair floating aimlessly in the Atlantic.
Always the skeptic when it comes to uber-gorgeous heroine, I admit to being on the defense at the start of the book. While Lola was a supermodel, she'd quit to start her own lingerie company. Smart and sexy business woman.
Even better, Gibson made a strong point about the price of holding one's body to the standards of the fashion media. Lola struggled with bulimia and anorexia during her career. The same body type that gave her large full breasts tended to lead to larger than model curves in other places when she was eating healthy. In her inner thoughts, readers are privy to an honest view of the industry's dangers including not only eating disorders, but drug use. The message was appreciated as was the subtlety with which it was delivered.
I had a very good time reading Lola Carlyle. Sam and Lola had a good time, too. The novel is definitely more on the racy side than I'm In No Mood for Love. Don't say I didn't warn you (you can leave the thank you notes in the comments).
