Vision Deals

In the debate between the influence of nature vs. nurture on a given trait, some traits are easier to define than others.

For example, there is a good chance that my less than perfect eyesight is pure genetics. My mother was issued her first pair of glasses at six years old. After her cataract surgeries a few months ago, she has the best vision of her whole life. My father wears noticeably thick lens - the classic Coke bottle kind - in his glasses. It's a wonder I can see at all.

As it happens, I seen to have been graced with the best vision of the whole lot. I got glasses in third grade after a bout of frequent headaches. I remember my first pair as being over sized with pink plastic frames.

My vision is much clearer with corrective lenses. More important to me, they cut down on eye strain and headaches. As a bookworm, it's essential to be able read long into the night when finishing a good book.

The glasses I have now are bent up. I was disappointed. They were the best looking pair I'd ever had. They were a bit like these from
Zenni Optical $8 Rx Glasses:

They still get the job done around the house, but even I am not willing to look that geeky to wear messed up glasses out. This was fine when I didn't work on a computer then come home to play on one.

I've been in need of an eye exam and new specks for several years now. One of my other inherited traits is the major player in why I've put it off longer than was wise.

You guessed it - both sides of my family carry the "thrift" gene. In the spirit of that thrift, I've been looking for the best deal in town on eyeglasses. As it turns out, the best deal in town isn't in town. My Great Discovery: Zenni Optical is found in my real home town - here on the inter net.

Since I've learned that part of getting a good deal is getting something valuable at a price lower then it is worth. If the price is right, but what you are getting is low quality that's not a deal at all.

The question that I ask myself when the price seems to good is where my money is going in the higher priced version. National chains buy advertising on national television. Local places pay for doctors, staff and location with what you spend. With minimal ad budget and low overhead, Best Thing Found: Zenni Optical is the perfect choice for a deal hound like me.

From the fashion perspective, a deal means a second or third of the item. I'd love a simple pair in silver or gold and sunglasses. Heck, at those prices I've even got my eye on a wild pair like these:

Cute, no?
