The Sims 3: Coming in 2009

No release date has been announced by EA Games for the next installment of The Sims. One thing is certain, this blog will take a short hiatus upon it's release.
The big leap forward from The Sims to The Sims 2 was "Aspirations" or goals. In the original, as long as basic life functions are met the Sims are happy. In 2, desires add dimension to tiny digital lives. A Sim could aspire to Family, Romance, Popularity, Knowledge or Wealth. Based on those categories, a Sim would want smaller, task based things.
A "Family" apparition Sim wants to get married, then have babies or even spend time with his parents. "Romance" Sims love Love, but don't love marriage. Sim spouses are very jealous. Much face slapping ensues.
Fulfilling Aspirations makes Sims stronger and more efficient. Learning new things takes less time. Promotions on the job are easier to come by.
According to the official site for The Sims 3, creating unique personalities for your Sims will be more in depth. Some of the dozens of promised traits listed on the site are green-thumb, friendly, artistic, childish, unlucky, lucky, good sense of humor, mooch, slob, frugal, flirty, and brave. Each Sim can have up to five mix and match traits.
Just trying combinations and watching the interactions will make for hours upon addicting hours. Imagine a neat, frugal Sim dropped in a house with a slob who mooches off their hard earned cash.
I'm also excited at the prospect of free roaming in the town. Screen shots released so far show Sims stopping off at the store on the way home from work and out for a run through the park. The Sims 2 had community areas, but they were more trouble then they were worth. It would take so long just to get a cab to the public area, then loading the board took too long. I seldom bothered.
I am looking forward to taking my Sims on a real shopping trip. With the level of detail alluded to, it looks like the product options will be far beyond the food and clothes of Sims 2. It might even be possible to visit a pharmacy to look for the best diet pills. With an expanded choice in body types, some Sims might aspire to loose weight.
Amazon has the release date of The Sims 3 as January 1, 2009, I'm be counting down to the New Year. It's going to be awesome.

I'm SSOOOOOO excited for this game! Did you seen the screen shots? *drool drool* It looks amazing!

I'm dying to get my hands on it. Doubly so because my disk for Sims 2 is screwed up. I haven't played in 8 months at least.

How weird The Sims is that we love the stress of everyday life in their world. Saving up for certain items or trying to get chores done before work is fun when it's digital. Not so fun in real life.

I haven't got any expansion packs so far. I'm consitering waiting for the prices to go down, replacing my Sims 2 and buying up all the packs rather than getting Sims 3 right away. We'll see if I have that kind of will power.
