Four Foods on Friday: Barbeque Edition
Val of Fun, Crafts and Recipes has put four questions on the grill for our enjoyment. So head on over for a helping of Four Foods on Friday # 31.
#1. What is your favorite food that is cooked on the barbeque?
Any meat is better on the grill. I'd have to say steaks and hot dogs benefit the most from the goodness of the charcoal. Oh yes, charcoal.
#2. What veggies, if any, do you cook on the barbeque?
We haven't done veggies on the grill. I have had corn, of course. My in-laws do potatoes and peppers.
#3. Tell us a little about your barbeque habits. Who grills, how often, what months, etc.
Let me set the record straight: I have never personally grilled or barbequed anything. My husband does almost all the cooking and every bit of the fire tending. Chris grew up in Buffalo, NY with his family grilling 12 months a year. When we lived up there, I saw my father-in-law put on winter gear and shovel a path out to the little grill. In the summer, the best stuff comes off his big smoker after a whole day.
Here in Missouri, we use the public grills at the end of our apartment building. Pictured below, you can see the open style doesn't lend itself to more advanced grilling/smoking applications.
Still, it does wonders for burgers and home-made bratwurst from our local butcher shop. If you don't have a butcher shop, find one and make friends with your butcher. It pays.
I'm going to go with my in-laws' grilled potatoes. It's super easy, and so yummy. Cut potatoes in quarters. Marinate in salad dressing overnight. I've had it with French dressing, but anything would work. Grill 'em until they are tender.
As a quick aside, can I just say: air tools. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest tonight.

Barbecue year round in winter weather, now that's a diehard bbq fan!
Thanks for playing FFOF!
Stumbled.

It's part being hardcore and part that winter is around 8 months long where they live.

Those potatoes sound WONDERFUL! Will have to give those a try!

The only dressing I don't think I'd try would do would be Ranch or creamy types. It might work, but I'm not sure.

We're electric grill people. Charcoal needs lighter fluid and I've tasted one too many hamburgers that taste like lighter fluid. Ha.

I was afraid of lighter fluid. I would make Chris buy the charcoal pretreated with lighter fluid. Of course, at that point we had a hibachi on our second story patio. He'd never go for electric or gas in a million years. That's okay with me though, cause I like the smell of charcoal - it's rather manly

I don't normally like hot dogs but when they are done on the grill they are yummy!

I'd much rather have sausage or bratwurst if we are doing a quick dinner and have to boil them, but on the grill a hot dog takes on a whole new flavor.

I love potatoes cooked on the grill like that. We add green and red peppers and onion to the mix too. Yum!

Yummy. All of my favorite veggies.

I still like the flavor of food grilled over real charcoal the best.

Me, too. For us, a meal on the grill means stilling outside together watching the fire. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in watching TV shows and both of us blogging, so it's nice to take some time to reconnect.
