I've Joined Shelfari: A Social Site For Readers
Shelfari is my new internet obsession. What other social networking site is designed for book lovers to connect? What other site offers a "bookshelf" to fill?
The combination of my lifelong book habit and my joy in making friends on the web is enough to keep me clicking well passed bedtime. Then, of course, I settle into bed by reading for around a half hour. Sounds like a perfect night to me. I would never install a TV wall mount in our bedroom, but I could use a few more bookshelves.
I have invited the friends in my address book to Shelfari, but I haven't joined any of the group discussions so far. I'm still working through the categories, adding books I've read, along with those I'd like to read to my shelf. I want to be seen as the well rounded reader I am.
If nothing else about Shelfari appeals, it is worth joining for the feature that allows you to download a spreadsheet of your books. I've always wanted to catalog my personal library and sharing online only makes it better. With the "plan to read" books, I could print the list for going to the public library or, God forbid, a used book store. I always draw a blank when I get there, so I end up not getting the very book I wanted.

Thanks. I may nee dot check this out.
I use a similar application on Facebook. I wonder if I would be able to maintain both of them.

I've given up on keeping up with social networking. I toddle along behind, best I can. It's harder with real life friends to be like, "I'll log in when I get dang good and ready."
I do iRead on Facebook. It's pretty cool for showing off my bookishness to people I'm already friends with, but I'm hoping to make new friends on Shelfari.

Welcome to Shelfari, Tina! Glad you like it. Once your start participating in the group discussions, I'm sure you'll make a lot of new Shelfari friends. It's fun finding people with whom you have books in common.

Most people I deal with on a daily basis don't "get" reading, so Shelfari should make me feel more normal. My ulterior motive is, of course, gaining readers for my blog. I've added a couple groups that sound interesting. Now I just have to carve out time to participate.

This is new to me and very interesting. I love the graphic of your shelf, though I imagine it's more like a roomful or a houseful.

If you join, look me up. I'd love to be "book friends" with all my blog friends.
