Four Foods on Friday Number 46

Why don't you join in on Four Foods on Friday? Nothing is as universal a topic as food, after all.

#1. Egg salad or deviled eggs. How do you prepare?

I've never made deviled eggs. My egg salad is super basic. I boil the heck out of some eggs, mix them with Miracle Whip (just enough) and season with a healthy dose of pepper.

#2. French fries. Do you make homemade or frozen?

Frozen. I've tried making homemade. It didn't go well. When quality doesn't suffer from taking the easy way out, I'm all for it. More time for me to enjoy my tv furniture is always a good thing.

#3. Gravy. What do you use - homemade, jar, can or from a package?

We never make gravy. Neither Chris nor I are big gravy eaters. I might try making some this coming Thanksgiving. I'd definitely make it from scratch.

#4. Share a recipe for a hot (temperature, not spice) dish.

One of our favorite easy hot dinners is Frittata. It's fancier than scrambled eggs for dinner with the same ingredients.

And another fellow Miracle Whip lover! You're the second one I've seen on this FFOF. I just don't get why some people think it's disgusting!

I grew up on the stuff. My dad wouldn't have anything else in the house. I'm not saying I don't love mayo when I'm eating out, but it's Miracle Whip Light in the fridge.

You may just be right. My dad would agree. One year at Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant (we always ate out on Thanksgiving), Dad requested another plate of turkey and mashed potatoes of the waitress, along with a "vat" of gravy. He meant a "gravy boat" but a "vat" would have made him even happier. We've never let him live that one down.

I think the trick to making great homemade french fries is to soak them in cold water for an hour. Pat with paper towels to make sure they are good and dry and then deep fry them. It is alot of bother though so I buy Ore-Ida and bake mine.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try it at least once just so I know I can do it well, then I'll go back to Ore-Ida.

Well...if you are from/lived in the NorthEast, gravy is the red stuff that you put on spaghetti, not the clear or brown stuff you use with turkey. In otherwords, I had to read it twice.

I don't think any area of this country has so many unusual terms, especally for food. That was one I was not aware of. I imagine I'm not the only FFoF that you had to read twice this week.

Growing up, my brother and I practically drank ketchup, so I understand even if it is a different substance.

When you try it, I recommend cheese. Maybe a little Ricotta and cheddar. *drool*
