Not A Political Blog, Just Some Insight On Resident Blogger

My blog friend Cynthia of Luna Tail recently posted her results to the following political spectrum test. Much thanks for sharing it.

The quiz measures both social and economic attitudes without addressing "hot button" issues. The results: dead on. In a perfect world, taxes would be low and freedom of the "mind your own business" variety.

You are a

Social Liberal
(61% permissive)

and an...

Economic Conservative
(61% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Centrist

In the last few months, the elections have overtaken the big media and the blogosphere to the extent where I have become frustrated with the process. I hate the personal issues and the nitpicking about the various players. Wardrobe choices are not voting issues. What a person's third cousin said ten years ago isn't important. It's just one more story for the vultures.

Can we vote and get it over with already?

I think of political views in the same way as spiritual matters. I'm happy to explain what I believe in either area. I'm happy to listen to ideas from people with diverging ideas. I will not argue, fight, or otherwise forcefully attempt to persuade anyone to my point.

If the rational statements do not change minds on a given topic, why do we think nastiness will? On the topics in which I have had a change of heart, it has come from listening to various philosophies then observe the world in relation to those ideas. Which ever opinion squares with my observations tends to be the viewpoint I take.

I mean no offense to those bloggers who are more politically vocal than I choose to be. I can respect why they do it. This is the first election in American history where the average man can easily put forth a personal platform. We had the internet before, but not social networks or blogging. Talk about freedom of speech.

But here is my thing: I wouldn't put a political banner on my lawn or sticker on my car. I don't think those kind of tactics impact how people vote. While I am not ashamed of my affiliations, I also don't feel the need to broadcast them to people I've never even met.

If you want to know, ask. If you are riding in the car behind me, you don't need to know who I'm voting for in November.

Below is the chart from the quiz with famous folks where they lay on the political landscape. Any questions?

By now it is not news that Obama has won the election. He will be the next leader of the United States of America and, by extension, leader of the free world.I revealed my political ideologies well ahead of today. As a right leaning Libertarian, McCain was my obvious choice. In fact when it comes to elections, I believe the Republican party is the closest I'll ever get to my beliefs without throwing away my vote on a third party hopeful. Am I disappointed to have the first presidential election since I have of age to vote not go my ...

Here's the conventional wisdom about yard signs and bumperstickers: People like to back a winner. If voters sense a lot of support for and momentum surrounding a candidate among his neighbors, he'll likely give that candidate a closer look. I know I'd never vote that way, but then, I don't understand those who are STILL undecided after more than a year of exposure to these candidates. But I'm parrotting back what I've been told when I was a campaign worker whose job it was to get those signs, bumper stickers and buttons out and as visible as possible.

I'm not surprised, but I'm a little saddened.

I totally agree about undecided voters, while also respecting people who are a bit more open minded then I am. But this late in the game, it's just silly.
