We All Want Peace and Prosperity

By now it is not news that Obama has won the election. He will be the next leader of the United States of America and, by extension, leader of the free world.

I revealed my political ideologies well ahead of today. As a right leaning Libertarian, McCain was my obvious choice. In fact when it comes to elections, I believe the Republican party is the closest I'll ever get to my beliefs without throwing away my vote on a third party hopeful.

Am I disappointed to have the first presidential election since I have of age to vote not go my way? Of course.

Do I believe the American voters made the wrong choice? Yes. My whole point in this election was are you for or against socialism. Apparently, the American voter wants to give it a whorl.

However, I do believe in America. I believe in the inherent stability of the Founding Father's design. Our nation is greater than any one politician.

No matter what, no president is sovereign. We have only two years before midterm elections where the legislative branch can be dramatically overhauled by the power of the ballot. As the squeaky wheels of government turn, it is no time at all.

The most important thing, however, is to remember the common desires of the American people. We all want the opportunity to provide for our families. We all want to see our neighbors helped when they are in need. We all want ethical and effective government. We want continued freedom to live our lives and practice our faiths.

We all want peace and prosperity. The only disagreement is the path best suited to our collective desires.

Thank you. The topic has been on my mind the last few weeks. Not as much as McCain, mind you, but on my mind. Since it is my first loss, I knew I wanted to be as dignified about it as possible in situations where I would find myself talking about the defeat.

Hey Tina! Thanks for stopping by my blog, yesterday was a tough day for me on many levels. This post of yours is really well written and I couldn't agree more that America must be interested in trying out socialism. Time will tell, I suppose. It just really bothers me that people think Obama is going to restore their rights when the first thing he's going to do is take away the right for life of unborn babies and override our voices on local and state wide legislation, that we voted for, and make abortion legal across the board. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems like he's taking away rights and our votes.

Ok, don't get me all worked up again! LOL I can feel the eye twitch coming back!

The more I hear, the more worried I am. My mom was telling me something today about Obama's plans to change the 401K legislation so the money is taxed before it goes in, plus otherwise gives the government control. Didn't we try this will Social Security?

From what I hear from Obama supporters, I find many of them didn't dig passed the hype and sound-bite promises. I overheard some guys at work the other day talking about "protecting American jobs" and thought, seriously, you think that fits into the values of a hard core socialist?
